VII International Forum «Creative Industries of the Arctic Region: Experience and Development Prospects»

From November 28 to 30, 2023, the VII forum «Creative Industries of the Arctic Region: Experience and Development Prospects» took place in Murmansk. This event was organized by partners of the Laboratory for Management in Culture and Tourism as part of the «Mirror Laboratories» project.с

Plenary Session

Education, entrepreneurship, and digital technologies were the three main pillars of the forum discussion this year. Particular emphasis was on discussing educational approaches  in creative professions. Issues connected with the development of creative entrepreneurship were actively discussed with focus on enhancing soft skills for supporting team competitiveness in the creative environment.

Nikita Argyloff, head of the media department, during his speech addressed the highly relevant issue of developing regional cinema as a tool for marketing territorial development. He also proposed a discussion on the challenges of scaling regional experience due to significant differences among regions.

Round Table on Strategic Session «My Business. Development of Northern Design»

The round table was organized to discuss the current challenges and opportunities in the entrepreneurial environment for the creative industries in the Murmansk region.

The Cluster Development Center of the Murmansk region was one of the initiators and organizers of this event. Vladimir Popov, director of the Center, spoke about its activities and outlined the urgent Center tasks ahead. The event was held as part of the national project «Small and Medium Entrepreneurship and Support for Individual Entrepreneurial Initiative», with support from the Ministry of Arctic and Economic Development of the Murmansk region.

More than 30 participants took part in the session - representatives from business, government structures and non-profit organizations, design udents Murmansk Arctic State University. 

The round table was moderated by Irina Borovskaya, Associate Professor in Management.

Round Table «Arctic Tourism: Creative Approach, Growth Points and Forces of Change. Creative Industries for Locals and Tourists»

The aim was to establish a dialogue between the academic community studying the phenomenon of creative industries and leading practitioners from business and regional structures. During the event, speakers shared their experiences in implementing creative projects such as Imandra Fest, the regional competition «Arctic Souvenir», the open creative festival «City of the Sun – City of Masters», and the project «Creative Business: Invented in the Arctic».

Anastasia Polomarchuk presented a database of tour operators of the Murmansk region created as part of the project (around 700 tours across the region). There was a particular interest in practices that integrate creative components into traditional tourist products.

Irina Sizova introduced models of interaction between business and creative industries based on the findings from the second year of research. She outlined three broad models of collaboration between businesses and organizations of creative industries.: the cooperation model, influence model and partnership model.
