XXII Forum "Strategic planning in the regions and cities of Russia"

On October 10-11, 2024, the annual XXII Forum «Strategic planning in the regions and cities of Russia» was held, featuring Prof. Valery Gordin, Head of the Laboratory for Management in Culture and Tourism, as a speaker.

As part of the panel discussion «Tourism and Regional Economy: Opportunities for Growth and Development», Prof. Gordin presented a report «Tourist Platforms as Tools for Developing Family Tourism», which focused on the development of tourism for children. Given that nowadays families with children represent one of the largest segments of tourists, there is an urgentpressing need to create attractive and affordable offers for this audience.

His presentation emphasized the necessity to update approaches to working with family audiences, where the primary focus should be on adapting cultural and touristic IT products to the behavior patterns of children and parents. It was noted that introducing children to the cultural heritage of tourist destinations requires special pedagogical and psychological approaches. Platform solutions were described as promising tools that can significantly enhance the experience of family travel.

In particular, it was highlighted that such solutions could be beneficial for tourists by providing convenient access to information and services, as well as for businesses by allowing them to optimize their offers and increase competitiveness. For the industry as a whole, this means creating a favorable ecosystem that fosters the development of new directions and products in the family tourism sector. The subsequent discussion, following the report, addressed the specifics of applying platform solutions to attract tourists from various countries and regions.

During the panel discussion, experts of the tourism industry discussed the development of hospitality infrastructure, improvement of the quality of services and integration of innovative technologies into the hospitality and tourism industries.

This report was prepared as part of the international project «Integrated platform solutions for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage (cases of Samarkand and St. Petersburg)».
